The Africa Games are held every four years, with the next being held in Maputo, Mozambique from 3-18 September 2011.
The competing countries at previous Games have included Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros & Mayotte, Congo, Congo (Zaire), Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawai, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Reunion, Rwanda, Saint Helena, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Spanish North Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Western Sahara, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Australian Rules Football has been played in Africa since 1997, and there is huge potential to grow the sport throughout Africa.
As a quarter of the world’s countries compete at the Africa Games, this is a fantastic opportunity to showcase Australian football and indeed Australia itself to the entire African continent.
